Sam McKnight of the Londonderry RNA receives the 'bugle' from Jack Murphy
The bugle was presented to the 1st HMS Londonderry by the owners of the Liverpool shipping company Elder Dempster, after the Derry had rescued survivors from the SS Macon, torpedoed by the Italian submarine Barbarigo.
Jack Murphy was a survivor and Sam MacKnight served aboard her during a later commission.
SS Macon sunk 26th July 1941, survivors rescued 3rd August 1941.
