The Abridged Reunion Report
The 8th HMS Londonderry Reunion was held at the Royal Maritime Club, Portsmouth over the weekend 26th, 27th, 28th September 2014.
Friday arrivals were greeted by David and Cynthia Wickham before being frisked for raffle prizes by Bootsie.
Friday evening was given over to catching up with old shipmates, welcoming new reunioneers and remembering those that have sadly crossed the bar since the previous reunion. The supply and issue of a tot of Nelson's blood by our Postie LTO Noel Coward was much appreciated as was the excellent raffle with some very impressive prizes.
Saturday gave everyone a chance to sample the delights of a Portsmouth which has now become very tourist oriented and most took the chance to visit the many attractions in the dockyard. Who would have believed it possible all those years ago as we trudged back aboard the Derry after a too short weekend or long leave that people would actually pay to visit HM Dockyard Portsmouth. In the evening the ladies took on the sailors at skittles in the RMC basement, who won? Guess....
Sunday morning was fond farewells for those leaving whilst the watch onboard carried on enjoying Hampshire's premier port and surrounds.
During Sunday the future of the reunion was discussed and it was generally agreed to continue holding them as long as there was sufficient support. It was suggested that the Isle of Wight Tours might be approached with a view to organising the next reunion in 2016 possibly in the Midlands, to give David and Cynthia a break.

Monday morning after a hearty breakfast those remaining said their fond farewells and made their way back to towns and cities all over the UK and some even to further afield to a land down under.
Until next time, smooth sailing and good health to those who made it to reunion and to those who didn't, be aware we know where you live!
